![]() A bunch of other airlines are in the ~$100/bike range now. Stay away from United - they'll charge you $200+ for the bike. Idk about a cost differential for that.Īlaska, Delta, and American all treat bikes as a regular checked bag now, so you just pay whatever you would for a checked bag. They also offer a roadside assistance which I just went and tried to add to my policy. The medical coverage of $2500 is an additional $33 per year. In total I pay $169/yr for $3500 in physical damage coverage with a $200 deductible, which is the lowest deductible they offer. I confirmed all this with my auto insurer just to be sure. I know one is personal liability but I was able to get a very cheap policy for that with a high limit from my rental and auto insurance company, and the other is vehicle contact protection which I also declined - either I'd be covered under the offending individual's insurance or if they're uninsured or underinsured I'd be covered under my state's required uninsured motorist coverage under my auto policy. One is medical payments, which I added to help me meet my medical insurance deductible. They have three optional additional items you can add. They also automatically cover competitive event fees, rental reimbursement if you need to rent a bike for an event, spare parts, and apparel. None of the exclusions relate to travel - they're mostly that they're not going to cover a theft if it wasn't properly secured somewhere safe or if you're mistreating your bike, etc. Looking at my policy it doesn't even explicitly cover travel, it just covers physical damage.
